Steve Bisciotti has opened up about his “craziest” decision of firing the Baltimore Ravens’ former coach, John Harbaugh.

According to ESPN, the Baltimore Ravens owner, in his first comments after firing Harbaugh, explains the reason behind axing his 18-year coach.

He started thinking about sacking Harbaugh late in the season and even discussed it with General Manager Eric DeCosta. However, the decision was not made until the season-opening loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Bisciotti said, “I fell on my instincts, and whatever I was feeling was right. I got to the point that I didn’t believe that I would feel regret after I made that decision, and that’s what instinct is. I just hope you respect me enough to know that 100 percent my instincts told me this was the time. And I may be right; I may be wrong, but I did it because I’m in charge of doing it.”

The 65-year-old American business executive also revealed that he even apologised to the former head coach.

Bisciotti said during Tuesday's news conference, “It was the craziest firing in the world. I was the one choked up, and he was the one consoling me… It was a wonderful, wonderful marriage. We accomplished great things. The next coach we get, I want him to be a Super Bowl-winning coach, too."

Harbaugh led the Ravens to Super Bowl XLVII in 2012, won six AFC North titles, and held the record for most wins in the team’s history. He also received the AP NFL Coach of the Year award in 2019.
