Shreya Ghoshal is Bollywood’s second nightingale after the much-honored singer, the late Lata Mangeshkar.
She has sung one romantic number after another, sometimes absorbing fans with her classical training, and at other instances, switching to springy beats.
Today, we’re looking back at her three most memorable Hindi tracks.
1. 'Jhallah Wallah'
Sung for the 2012 romantic flick Ishaqzaade, Jhallah Wallah is a “sneering” item number. It features Parineeti Chopra goofily shaking a leg next to the contrastingly elegant Gauahar Khan. Shreya’s vocal expressions match terrifically with the lyrics, blending well with their catchy melody.
2. 'Teri Ore'
The timeless classic Teri Ore from Singh Is Kinng presents Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif’s dream-like chemistry set against one of Bollywood’s signature backdrops – winds are blowing and the heroine is dressed in a saree. Both Shreya and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan sing from the heart, taking their listeners to another world.
3. 'Dhoom Taana'
Om Shanti Om’s Dhoom Taana was an attempt at giving the classic era of Indian songs a modern twist. The video shows Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone dancing in scenes recreated from older movies. Shreya remarkably lives up to this celebratory theme, reciting lines based on banter with fellow vocalist Abhijeet Bhattacharya.
