Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Black (2005) has completed 19 years since its theatrical debut, which has encouraged Netflix India to honor this notable milestone by releasing it on OTT for the first time.

On Sunday, February 4, the company announced via its YouTube channel that cinema fanatics can celebrate the movie’s anniversary by now watching it on its streaming platform.

This is an immensely favorable decision for film buffs as Black was only viewable through illegal torrents until today. For other interested folks, there was simply no option to experience its brilliance.

The film narrates the story of Rani Mukerji’s character, Michelle, who is both deaf and blind. A teacher named Debraj, played by Amitabh Bachchan, persuades her to enter the “world of light” by completing her graduation.

Based on Helen Keller’s book Story of My Life, it garnered all-round praise from fans and critics alike for telling a powerful tale loaded with emotions, art, and literary references.

There are multiple paintings, statues, philosophical anecdotes, and poetry books to relish.

Relying solely on instrumentals, Black also remains an oddball in Bhansali’s filmography, which is contrastingly famous for grand dance numbers.
