Varun Dhawan’s powerfully honest acceptance speech for winning Zee Cine’s Best Actor award for portraying Ajay Dixit in Bawaal has gone viral.
Expressing shock for securing the trophy, he said, “When the nominations were announced, Bhushan ji very sweetly told me, ‘Of course you are winning the award, that’s why you showed up,’ ” but the actor was actually clueless.
Since stars Salman Khan and Sunny Deol were nominated in the same category for movies that had a great box-office run, he thought that one of those two would win, saying, “My vote would go to them.”
On the other hand, Bawaal had made every other person raise eyebrows upon its release.
Recalling this, Varun stated, “It was met with a lot of controversy and people had a mixed response to whether it was politically correct or not correct. But ass the year has ended, it was the most watched film on OTT.”
“Obviously, people have a lot of views. Since the dust has cleared, we know the movie has stood the test of time. I think that is what a great movie. It has been a while since Bawaal released, so I am also surprised that I am getting this award now,” he concluded.
Indian award shows are often called out for their lack of credibility. After seeing Shah Rukh Khan and Arijit Singh bag all the medals, Zee Cine 2024 received the same reaction from audiences.
Varun’s victory however has taken everyone by surprise, including the celebrity himself since it was completely unexpected.
