Sanjay Dutt’s estranged daughter, Trishala Dutt, has grabbed onlookers’ attention by calling her parent’s absence a “blessing in disguise.”
On March 12, she shared a story on Instagram, which read, "Sometimes, an absent parent is a blessing in disguise. Because the demons they carry can inflict more pain than their absence ever could. It's not fair and it's not right, but you'll be okay."
The message is seemingly directed at Sanjay, who married her mother, actress Richa Sharma, in 1987.
The two were blessed with Trishala after two years of wedding, but Richa was unfortunately diagnosed with a brain tumor and had to visit New York for her treatment, ultimately dying in 1996.
During this time, Sanjay stayed back in India and soon filed for a divorce in 1993. Some reports attributed the reason to be terminal cancer, whereas others said that he was involved in many romantic affairs.
While some of these were brought up in his 2018 biopic, Sanju, the most notable one was with fellow star Madhuri Dixit, which was mentioned in a tormented letter written by Richa before her death.
The actor then went on to get married for the second and third time.
Trishala, on the other hand, grew up in the US alone with her grandparents since her mother had died and Sanjay had reportedly neglected her.
Now that the said Instagram story is circulating on the internet, the celebrity is largely being slammed online.
A user wrote, “This is why the movie Sanju is such a travesty, rewriting history to portray him as a good hearted man child with the media to blame for all his problems. He’s a jerk to his own daughter and that’s not forgivable.”
“I remember from the news headlines in the 90s, he was estranged from his wife who was suffering from cancer. She was in the US, and he was in India. I don't remember if he left her after she got cancer or before. But I do remember that it was one big ugly mess,” another recalled.
Someone proclaimed, “Sanju was a really irresponsible garbage and ruined many lives along the way starting with his parents.”
However, one person tried clearing the air.
He said, “There was a legal case for her custody in the US. Richa's parents asked the court to not grant custody to Baba on the pretext that he was a terrorist. Baba fought and actually won. He got her to India and realized that he couldn't give her the care she needs. So he willingly took her back to US.”
It is to be noted that Sanjay and Trishala aren't completely estranged. The two have been photographed many times together, including wishing each other on their birthdays.
