Randeep Hooda has verified that he didn’t interact much with Alia Bhatt as a means to frighten her during their time together on Highway sets.
In a recent interview with Humans of Bombay, the actor was asked whether speculations regarding him not speaking to his co-star were true.
“That was more for her,” he admitted, “She was from Juhu, she hadn’t really seen much of the world, she didn’t have exposure.”
The movie was Alia’s second film in line, right after her high profile debut with Student of the Year, which was a breeze walk acting-wise.
Although her character was a rich city girl in both flicks, the difference is that in Highway, it unraveled into making a deep connection with the soul as the story progressed.
At one point, the celebrity is subjected to Stockholm Syndrome, where she is both scared and yet in love with her kidnapper, who is played by Randeep.
He continued, “I had exposure… I’d been in NCR with the Gurjars and Jaats. I grew up among them. So, to keep her fear of my character in place… She used to be terrified of me, and I made sure of that.”
“I never spoke to her. She wouldn’t come sit next to me also. And that’s the effect we wanted in the movie. She was new, still getting her acting chops right. I hope somebody does these things for me,” the star added.
Cut to Highway’s release – it turned out to be a celebratory success, landing many nominations to both Randeep and Alia, as well as becoming a very memorable production.
