
Duke of Kent, Prince Edward, is finally ready to step down from his Colonel of the Scots Guards role after 50 long years.
The 88-year-old will spend his last day in this role at the Black Sunday event in London.
The cousin of late Queen Elizabeth II pens his valiance just prior to leaving his Scots Guard role with a carousel of images depicting his devotion to duty on the royal family’s official Instagram page.
He states, “Serving with the Scots Guards had been a true honour which would "forever fill me with great joy.”
"Through those years, I have seen the work of the Scots Guards during peacetime and war and witnessed their bravery, selfless courage and devotion to duty," he further added.
Edward signed off, "To my fellow Scots Guardsmen, I am immensely proud to have served you all. I am delighted that His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh will continue to champion all that you do and work towards preserving your great legacy."
It is pertinent to note that Prince Edward took over the reigns in the year 1974 and now the Duke of Edinburgh has his sights set on the position.
