Whitey Herzog, who is regarded as one of the best Major League Baseball managers in history, has passed away on Monday, April 15, at the age of 92.
As per ESPN, his family has listed the cause of death to be severe illness.
On their behalf, one member issued a statement to his baseball team, St. Louis Cardinals, noting, “Whitey spent his last few days surrounded by his family.”
“We have so appreciated all of the prayers and support from friends who knew he was very ill. Although it is hard for us to say goodbye, his peaceful passing was a blessing for him,” they added.
The professional outfielder is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Herzog, along with three children named Debra, Jim, and David.
His name will also be sustained by nine grandchildren, all of whom live a private life.
Together, the family has planned a celebration of Whitey’s life and has requested that if someone makes any donations in the celebrity’s name, it should go to Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
Earlier this month, he was present at the Cardinals’ home opener, where an ovation from the entire sellout crowd was given to him upon introduction.
