‘American Idol’ honors legacy of Mandisa with special tribute: Watch

American Idol paid a touching homage to the beloved and cherished icon, Mandisa following her April 18 death.

To remember her indelible mark on the music industry, the long-running singing competition series representative shared the statement with the PEOPLE, “Mandisa was an adored icon on American Idol and in the music industry.”

They added in a statement, “She had become a platinum-selling artist and had won several Grammys for her music. Her passing has left everyone on the show heartbroken, and we extend our deepest condolences to her family.”


Moreover, on Monday's show, headlined "Judges' Song Contest," Idol alumni Colton Dixon, Melinda Doolittle, and Danny Gokey sang Mary Mary's "Shackles" as an homage to their late friend.

Prior to the episode's airing, host Ryan Seacrest shared an Instagram photo of himself with the three performers.

He noted in the caption, “Tonight, #IDOL alums, close friends, and collaborators pay tribute to Mandisa.”


It is pertinent to mention that the 47-year-old Grammy Award-winning singer, who first gained recognition as a competitor on American Idol's fifth season, passed away on Thursday, April 18.

“We can confirm that yesterday Mandisa was found in her home deceased," a rep for the singer tells PEOPLE in a statement.

They added, "At this time we do not know the cause of death or any further details. We ask for your prayers for her family and close knit circle of friends during this incredibly difficult time."
