Emma Stone and Nathan Fielder are set to reunite under the A24 banner for an intriguing project based on Ben Mezrich's captivating tale of the Carlsen-Niemann chess scandal.

As per the reports of The Hollywood Reporter, the Poor Things star and The Curse star are gearing up for Checkmate by Ben Mezrich, whose books have been adapted into films 21, The Social Network and Dumb Money.

Fielder will direct, while Stone will co-produce with her husband and collaborator Dave McCary under the Fruit Tree label.

The sources reported that the book deal is near to its conclusion or has been concluded however but talent negotiations are still being finalised.

However, the screenwriter has not been finalized yet.

As per the reports, the film is based on a 12-page book proposal about the genuine chess cheating incident involving Magnus Carlsen and Hans Niemann.

It is not confirmed yet that Stone or Fielder will be considering showcasing their acting skills in the project.

For the unversed, the film will revolve around the biggest scandal of the chess world dramatising the events of the “controversial 2022 head-to-head match between Grandmasters Magnus Carlsen, then world champion, and Hans Niemann, during which the latter was accused of cheating.”
