Former AFL player Cam McCarthy die at 29
Cam McCarthy played 70 games for the Giants and Dockers 

Former Australian Football League (AFL) player Cam McCarthy died in Perth at the age of 29.

The Western Australia Police confirmed the death of the player, stating, “About 6:15 pm yesterday, Thursday 9 May 2024, emergency services were called to an address in Lake Coogee. Upon arrival, it was confirmed a 29-year-old male was deceased.”

The officials further informed, “The death is being treated as non-suspicious. A report will be prepared for the coroner.”

As per an ABC News report, a former footballer was diagnosed with epilepsy in 2020 after he collapsed during a training session.

McCarthy played 70 AFL matches and kicked 99 goals in a 7-year career with Greater Western Sydney (GWS), Fremantle and Dockers.

McCarthy's recent club, South Fremantle Football Club, also released a statement that says, “Cam is remembered not just as a prodigious football talent, but as a popular, compassionate and caring person who had time for everyone at our club.”

The club expressed, “He will be dearly missed. The entire South Fremantle Football Club community offers condolences to the McCarthy family at this difficult time."

Moreover, Greater Western Sydney Club’s CEO, David Matthews, said, “We are saddened to learn of Cam's passing. Cam had great energy and was a much-loved member of our club for the seasons he was here. He was very popular and a bright footballing talent.”
