King Charles first official royal portrait has driven royal experts and critics up the wall, with many slamming the art piece for its ‘hellish’ portrayal of the monarch.
Expert Lorraine Kelly went as far as comparing the Jonathan Yeo portrait to something straight from the ‘gates of hell’, Mirror UK reported.
Yeo, a renowned abstract portrait artist, started the piece when Charles was still the Prince of Wales and painted him in the uniform of the Welsh Guards, but the portrait failed to impress Kelly who took to bashing it on her show this morning.
Sharing that ‘it’s a no’ from her, Kelly said, “I have to say I’m not a fan. I kind of think he’s looking at me through the gates of hell, I don’t like it.”
“I think maybe when you see it in real true life, it might be different. But it’s a no from me. So sorry Jonathan, I apologise, I know you spent ages doing that,” she added.
Kelly’s sentiments were echoed by social media users, with many taking to X (formerly Twitter) to voice their disapproval.
One user wrote: “King Charles just unveiled his new portrait of himself Burning in Hell,” and another noted, “Lorraine Kelly just said 'it looks like he's looking at me from the gates of hell'… Yikes, and I agree... it feels bloody.”
