Deemi Moore’s horror-thriller The Substance got premiered at Cannes Film Festival 2024 and received the longest standing ovation this year.
Directed by Coralie Fargeat The Substance was screened at Grand Lumiere Theatre on Sunday May, 19 and got a long 13-minutes long standing ovation with thunderous clapping.
Moore responded with blowing kisses towards the screen saying “Thank you! Thank you!,” while her costar Margaret Qualley and Coralie Fargeat beamed with delight as audience clapped.
After the applaud was finished, Coralie expressed her gratitude, noting, “It’s been a ride, This is my first time to have a film premiere in Cannes. I’m so happy to be here. I’m a little exhausted — that was intense.”
The official synopsis reads. “It generates another you. A new, younger, more beautiful, more perfect you. And there’s only one rule: You share time. One week for you. One week for the new you. Seven days each. A perfect balance. Easy. Right? If you respect the balance… what could possibly go wrong?
The Substance cast also includes Hugo Diego Garcia, Dennis Quaid, Phillip Schurer and Joseph Balderrama.
Prior to this, Emilia Pérez, starring Selena Gomez and Zoe Saldaña, also received an 11-minute standing ovation at the Cannes.
