Carrie Underwood is all set to judge American Idol’s upcoming season, and the executive producer, Megan Wolflick, is revealing why she was chosen as Katy Perry’s replacement.

In Entertainment Tonight’s published interview on August 1, Wolflick opened up about the former winner of the show, Carrie Underwood, replacing the Woman World’s artist in the forthcoming season.

“She is our queen; she is our icon of American Idol,” said the producer about Underwood.

“Well, it is 20 years since she auditioned in St. Louis for American Idol, and to have the first ever Idol alum on the panel has always been something that’s been interesting to me,” said Wolflick after the Love Wins singer’s appointment was announced.

Wolflick mentioned that talks with Underwood had been underway for a while and how they were eagerly working on finalizing her role.

Naming Ryan Seacrest, who hosted the Damage singer’s winning season two decades ago, as the most thrilled person about her returning to the show, Wolflick said, ”Ryan couldn’t be more excited, since he has been there every step of the way with Carrie.”

“He was like, just over the moon about it,” she noted.

She revealed that the show had been searching for a new judge since Perry resigned from the post in February.

Carrie Underwood will join Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie on the judging panel for season 23.
