The player took to his social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to announce his retirement.
Irfan wrote, “I have decided to retire from international cricket. I want to express my deepest gratitude to my teammates and coaches. Thank you for the love, the cheers, and the unforgettable memories. I will continue to support and celebrate the game that has given me everything. Pakistan Zindabad,.”
The retirement of these star players has been unexpected yet shocking for Pakistan cricket and their fans, as all the announcements happened within hours of each other.
Irfan, with a height of 7 feet 1 inch, is the tallest cricketer in the history of both first-class and international cricket.
The 42-year-old played for Pakistan in 4 Test matches, 60 ODIs and 22 T20Is.
During his remarkable career, he took 10 wickets in Test matches, 83 wickets in ODIs and 16 wickets in T20Is.
Imad was the first to announce his retirement on Friday, December 13.
He said in a statement, “To all fans and supporters: After much thought and reflection, I have decided to retire from international cricket.”
Following him, Amir also announced his retirement from international cricket on Saturday, December 14.
Amir said, “It has been a great honor to play for Pakistan across all three formats. I know this is a difficult decision, but I feel this is the right time for the next generation to take the baton and elevate Pakistan cricket to new heights.”
