The Los Angeles 2028 Olympics is all set to make history with the most medal events after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Executive Board (EB) approve 22 more games.
According to The Guardian, the IOC on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, approved a record 351 medal events for the 2028 Summer Games, which means there will be 22 more events than at the Paris Olympics 2024, while the total quota of athletes will be 10,500 across 31 sports.
As per the Olympics, the LA 2028 Games will mark a strong commitment towards gender equality, as for the first time in history there will be at least the same number of women's teams as men’s teams in all team sports.
Additionally, the number of female athlete quota spots, 5,655, will surpass male quota spots, 5,543.
An IOC spokesperson said, “These additions reflect our commitment to innovation and gender equality. They offer thrilling new moments for athletes and fans alike.”
“The LA28 programme reflects a thoughtful balance of tradition and transformation. It celebrates excellence while adapting to what the Olympic Games must become,” the IOC added.
Furthermore, six new mixed-gender events, including golf, rowing (coastal beach sprint), table tennis and archery, are also added in the Summer Games.
The Los Angeles Olympics will be held from July 14 to 30, 2028.
