The cause of death of Catherine O'Hara has finally been revealed 10 days after her passing.
For the unversed, the Home Alone actress, who died at the age of 71, passed away at a hospital in Santa Monica, California, on January 30, 2026.
Now, a Los Angeles County death certificate issued the statement regarding her cause of death on Monday, February 9.
As per the certificate, the Beetlejuice actress died from a pulmonary embolism, which occurs when a blood clot blocks an artery in the lungs, as the immediate cause of the actress’ death.
Symptoms include a sudden difficulty in breathing, chest pain that increases when breathing, and coughing up blood, according to the NHS.
Apart from embolism, the Schitt's Creek performer had Rectal cancer as the long-term underlying cause and had been receiving treatment since March 2025.
Moreover, the oncologist who signed off on the certificate revealed that he last saw her on January 27.
The deceased actress is survived by her husband Bo Welch, her sons Matthew and Luke, and her six siblings.
On professional front, Catherine O'Hara's final on-screen project was the first season of the Apple TV+ comedy series titled The Studio, which premiered in 2025.
Since her death, many tributes have poured in for the Canadian actress, including Pedro Pascal, and Macaulay Culkin, her on-screen son in Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost In New York.
