‘Peaky Blinders’ movie to kick off production with Cillian Murphy on THIS date


The fans’ favourite mafia boss Thomas Shelby is all set to bring back the action and thrill in Peaky Blinders film.

After winning the Oscars for Oppenheimer, Cillian Murphy, who mesmerized the audience as Thomas Shelby in six seasons of BBC’s hit crime drama Peaky Blinders, is gearing to reprise his role for the movie adaptation.

As confirmed by the director of the war drama, Steven Knight, Cillian is returning to the big screens for Peaky Blinders film, which is set to kick off production in September 2024.

During his conversation with the Birmingham World at the premiere of his new BBC drama, The Town, Knight confirmed of Muphy, “He definitely is returning for it.” 

Spilling on the production location and time, he added, “We’re shooting it in September just down the road in Digbeth [England].”

Previously, in a 2022 interview with Esquire, Knight expressed his desire to pursue the movie adaptation of Peaky Blinders, noting, “The film, I know exactly what it’s about. And I know what two stories it’s going to tell.”

He added, “What will happen after that, I want that to depend on the film. For all we know somebody is going to pop out – I think I know who it’s going to be.”

Peaky Blinders, which debuted on BBC Two and before moving to BBC One and then Netflix, where it became immensely successful, is based on the Birmingham gang whose exploits it chronicled following World War I.

The plot revolves around Thomas Shelby, the head of the gang and his family’s rise to power and their conflicts with rival gangs, law enforcement, and politicians.

Thomas navigates through various challenges to expand the family's influence, often resorting to violence and manipulation.
