Priyanka Chopra has joined director Barry Avrich’s documentary, Born Hungry, as a producer along with her entertainment studio, Purple Pebble Pictures.

As reported by Deadline on Tuesday, she will serve this role alongside Mary Rohlich, who is the head of TV and Film at the superstar’s company.

The movie is a gutsy production based on a young Indian boy finding himself abandoned by his family members.

He then goes on a transformational journey to become the internationally famous chef, Sash Simpson.

Noting this, Priyanka wrote on Instagram, “Aligning with stories and filmmakers that have the ability to move the audience by having a unique point of view is what we always look for.”

Born Hungry is exactly that. I was so moved by Sash’s incredible story of resilience and determination, it was a no-brainer for us to collaborate. We cannot wait to share this,” she added.

The actor’s love for representing Indian culture by backing flicks that are centered on her home country is pretty much known by everyone.

But Avrich, too, has similar things to say about himself.

“I have always loved the brilliantly colorful storytelling from India and the vibrancy of iconic Bollywood filmmaking. When I discovered this story, I was immediately struck,” he told the news site.

Having already been premiered at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, his feature will now screen at Hot Docs Film Festival on April 26.
