Jimmy Kimmel has shared an emotional update about his son Billy, revealing that the young boy recently underwent his third heart surgery.

Taking to his Instagram account on Monday, the late-night show host, shared a photo of his son smiling in a hospital bed.

He kicked off his long caption with, “This weekend, our boy Billy had his third (of three, we hope) open heart surgery. We went into this experience with a lot of optimism and nearly as much fear and came out with a new valve inside a happy, healthy kid."

In a note, Kimmel also expressed his gratitude towards “hardworking” hospital staff and mentioned his humbling experience of “meeting parents at their most vulnerable, children in pain.”

The host appreciated "strangers who took time to pray for and send positive energy to our baby" and their friends and family for "rallying around us to an almost ridiculous extent."

Kimmel also voiced gratitude to his wife for "being stronger than is reasonable for any Mom to be," and his son Billy, whom he called "the toughest (and funniest) 7 year-old we know."

Soon after, he shared the news, the fans and friends expressed their well wishes and love for Billy.
