Diogo Jota's wife, Rute Cardoso shared an emotional tribute to the late football star on their daughter's first birthday milestone.
Diogo's widow took to her Instagram account to share a heartfelt carousel, featuring him cradling and smiling with his baby girl.
The photos were accompanied by a simple three words caption, “A whole year.”
Diogo and his brother Andre Silva died on July, 2025 when their car went off the road and caught fire on the A-52 motorway in Cernadilla, a town in the Zamora province of Spain.
The tragedy struck only weeks after Diogo played a key role in Portugal's Nations League final win over Spain.
After the tragedy, Liverpool has announced that Diogo's No.20 shirt will be permanently retired across the entire club including Liverpool Women and all youth academy.
A statement from Liverpool read, "It was the number he wore with pride and distinction, leading us to countless victories in the process – and Diogo Jota will forever be Liverpool Football Club’s number 20."
The statement added, "After consultation with his wife, Rute, and family, the club can announce the squad number will be retired in honour and memory of Diogo across all levels, including LFC Women and Academy."
It is pertinent to note that Diogo married to his longtime partner on June 22, 2025 after being together for nine years and getting engaged in 2022.
They shared three children, two sons and a daughter.
