"ÒI'm
totally into qawwalis and sufi music. These days, I'm listening
to 'Koi Umeed' writted by Ghalib and sung by Rahat Fateh Ali
Khan. I'm also into Abida Parveen's 'Raqs-e-Bismal'.Ó
Mirza Ghalib's 'Koi Umeed Bar Nahi Aati', sung by Rahat Fateh
Ali Khan, is one of the singer's famous ghazals. Abida Parveen
is a living legend and one of the best performers of Pakistani
devotional music. Rizwan Beyg Designer ÒI'm not very
much into ghazals but I listen to a lot of qawwalis. I'm listening
to Farid Ayaz's work - I have a collection of his qawwalis.
And I'm also listening to Hazrat Amir Khusro's work.Ó
Farid Ayaz is an outstanding classical musician and is a recipient
of the Pride of Performance. Farid Ayaz has performed in Croatia,
Turkey, Morocco, Greece and Jordan. Watching Farid Ayaz and
his troupe perform is definitely an experience every music
aficionado should have once in their lifetime! |

"ÒI'm
into the ghazals sung by Noor Jehan. I love all of them, though
I'm more into Iqbal Bano's music. Her ghazal 'Dasht-e-Tanhai'
is the best and nothing can beat it. It's written by Faiz
Ahmed Faiz. There's no one like Iqbal Bano these days. I'm
also listening to Tahira Syed - I like all of her ghazals
and I used to have all her albums back in the days. One of
my many favorites is 'Yeh Keh Rahe Hain' and it's written
by Daman. These are the great Pakistani ghazals.Ó Noor
Jehan is known as Malika-e-Tarranum (the queen of melody)
whereas Iqbal Bano won the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz for her contributions
to the world of Pakistani ghazals and unfortunately passed
away this year. Her renditions of Faiz Ahmed Faiz's poetry
are iconic, particularly 'Dasht-e-Tanhai' and 'Hum Dekheinge'.

ÒI'm
listening to Rahat Faten Ali Khan's 'Ore Piya' and 'Man Qunto
Maula' by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. There are different versions
to this ghazal, it has been sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan as
well. IÕm also listening to Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan.Ó
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan is known as Shahenshah-e-Qawwali. His
nephew, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, is continuing in the 600 year
tradition of the family and is a favorite in Pakistan and
India, whereas Bade Ghulam Ali Khan is a representative of
Hindu classical music. |
