Narrated 'Umar bin Abi Salama:

I was a boy under the care of Allah's Apostle (PBUH) and my hand used to go around the dish while I was eating. So Allah's Apostle (PBUH) said to me, 'O boy! Mention the Name of Allah and eat with your right hand, and eat of the dish what is nearer to you.' Since then I have applied those instructions when eating.

Dear Editor

Regarding IYA

AoA Ed,

I do not understand why people are creating such a fuss about 'In Your Aangan'? First of all, Us is not a kid's magazine and even if it was a kid's magazine, why shouldn't issues like these be discussed in it? Child abuse is one issue children need to be extensively educated about, as it is widely prevalent in most societies. In Pakistan, parents and children should be made aware of it as here such issues are considered taboo and people think that ignoring them will make them go away. But living in denial can never solve a problem.

On the other hand, I don't think 'In Your Aangan' is being very helpful for the victims of child abuse as there is no particularly helpful advice given with respect to the after-effects of abuse such as low self-esteem or different phobias these children tend to develop. In addition to replying to individual letters, advice should be given on such matters, too.

Peace through education

Dear Lubna Khalid,

I am highly impressed by the cover story published in the issue of December 4, 2009 and I am mailing you to express my feelings about this hero, Mr. Mortenson. He has given so much to the children of Pakistan. I have become his great admirer and I pray for his prosperity and success.

Abid

Humble request to all parents

Dear Editor,

I am writing to you for the very first time and I hope you will publish my letter. What I want to say through this letter is that we all love our motherland and can sacrifice anything for it as we know that our existence depends on its existence. We've got this country after giving lots of sacrifices and our brave sons are still laying down their lives in battlefields for our motherland. This is high time for everyone to realise and understand their responsibilities. It's my humble request to all Pakistanis that please don't let the terrible situation dispirit you. We will overcome all the problems one day. And we can overcome these problems by educating and grooming our new generation; teach them to be good, teach them to be honest, teach them to be loyal to our country. This would be one huge favour we can do for our country.

Salam Eddi!

The issue of November 27 was great! The article 'Modernism v/s Extremism - The end Result' by Awais Imran was remarkable. I agree with him. We just need to have faith. In letter's section, Awais Arshad compared Harry Potter series with Twilight Saga. I don't agree with him. Twilight has its own charm.

Ed, I want you to increase the number of pages and publish the posters of Emma Watson and Tom Felton.

Imama Ibrar

Dear Ed,

The issue of December 4 was awesome, especially the story 'Welcome home' by Warda Ali Naqvi. It was excellent. Please increase the number of pages and bring the 'Greetings' page back. And yes, I want you to print Hilary Duff's poster in your magazine.

Yasir Abbas, Gilgit

Eddy,

I am a big fan of Jasir Jawed and want to see more of his work in the mag. I hope you pay heed to my request. Also, I think editorial is the most important part of any magazine and should never be omitted! Eddy, I want to know about your team who work to compile this whole magazine, so please tell your readers about them. Best of luck for the future!

Ayesha Sheikh, Rawalpindi

Dear Eddy

After a very long time, I read stories in Us which inspired me. The story 'Welcome home' was great! It's heartening to see that there still are youngsters who want to live and die for this beautiful country. Other than that, as a humanitarian myself (I work for USAID), I found the cover story 'Peace through education' very inspiring. I emailed it to all the local and international members of my organisation and it was very appreciated by all, especially by the Program Officer who himself is an American. We could relate to it because we are doing the same work in the FATA region, but in a more instituationalised manner and we are trying to work in conflict zones, too. Mortenson, no doubt, is going to be our role model. Friends, wake up! Use your minds and take this country out of the crisis it's facing by solving problems on grass root level.

Abby Khattak

Hello Editor,

I used to get another English newspaper and thought it was the best. But during my Eid holidays, I was visiting my uncle's place and their children introduced me to Us and The News. I started going through your magazine and guess what, I completely loved it. I can't believe I hadn't read Us before. Your issue on Eid was really great. I loved the cover story 'Animal Talkies' by Luavut and the 'Poets' Corner' seemed good, too. I kept on laughing while reading 'Chachi Chatters'; it was fantastic. All these things made me realise that I had to get Us regularly. So, it's another Friday and my newspaper guy delivered Us today! The cover story on Greg Mortenson was very inspiring. 'Graffiti' was top notch. 'Welcome home' and 'An ounce of sympathy' were written with tender emotions. All in all, a very wholesome magazine! :D

Yo Ed!

I am writing to you after a very long time. What forced me to write was the article 'Lights, music, rock!' by Jasir Jawaid (November 27). Ed, it was tremendous. I was over the moon to see something about my favourite band, Linkin Park, in Us. All the bands mentioned in the article were my favourites. And I also got to read some new information about them. Thanks a lot for printing something refreshing. Also, the cover stories are getting interesting, too. Moreover, I loved the 'Faith files' and 'Trust Us' (November 20). I admire when Guru gives satisfying suggestions. Lastly, thanks for bringing back the poster page. Kindly print the poster of '30 Seconds to Mars' or I won't read Us ever again! ;)

Mahnoor Alam Khan, Peshawar

Hi Editor,

Finally, Us came up with something zara hat kay! 'Chachi Chatters' was quite a pleasant surprise. I really liked the style. Who is this Chachi, by the way? I am already looking forward to the next coulumn after reading this one twice. Other than that, there wasn't a lot of interesting stuff in the issue of November 27, 2009.

Umaira Masood, Gujranwala

Dear Ed,

I am writing this letter in response to a letter sent by a reader on the 13th of November, 2009. I am sorry for the late reply. In the letter the writer asked for Miley Cyrus' public profile on Facebook. So this is to inform all that she has numerous profiles but the two which she uses the most are 'Miles R Cy' and 'Miles Ray Cyyrus'.

Minahil Ghafoor, Lahore

Hey Ed,

Thank goodness for the 'adult' element that 'Chachi Chatters' brought in. I really enjoyed it a lot. It was really very funny. Chachi, you totally rock! However, the cover story 'Animal talkies' was so-so. The article 'Abolish the Abuse!' by Safia Aftab was informative. 'Graffiti' was not up to the mark this time. But 'Chachi Chatters' really made up for the all the other deficiencies.

Ozair Mansha, Sargodha

Hi Ed,

The issue of November 27 was tremendous. 'Chachi Catters' was amazing and refreshing! Great idea! Ed, when is Chachi going to write for Us again? How old is she? Can I marry her? I belong to a very noble and educated family. :P

Shehzad Ahmad Chohan ,Lahore

Dear Editor,

I absolutely loved Us of November 27, 2009. 'Chachi Chatters' was such an awesome addition. It totally cracked me up. But I noticed there was no name with the column. Was that a mistake? Anyway, whoever wrote it, wherever she is, I am looking forward to more and more of you - Chachi…

And also Luavut Zahid did a commendable job in cover story 'Animal talkies'.

Zubia Rehan, Islamabad

Hiya Ed,

Okay, let me make this short, and clear. The cover story, 'New Loonies' by Luavut Zahid was very childish and naive.  A work of fiction can have all the possibilities. The article was not at all impressive, and a truly wanna-be piece of writing.

Rameen Nomaan, A.K.

Hey Edi!

The issue of November 20 was superb! The cover story really appealed to me because I am one of biggest fans of 'Twilight'. The article 'I still haven't lost faith' by Hafsah Sarfraz was also good. I really appreciate her great work. The poster of Selena Gomez was good, too! I like her a lot. Keep up the good work!

Amrat Khan, Muzaffarabad

Blacklisted!

Dear Editor,

I want to bring to your attention that a poem 'Little cat's feet' which was published in the issue of November 27, 2009 was not written by Sana Toor. The original writer of the poem is Carl Sandburg, a modern American poet. The original title of the poem is 'Fog'. It is also the part of Bachelors of Arts curriculum. Kindly take notice of this.

Zara

Sana Toor has been blacklisted from the mag.
